Nerve-sparing or Retzius-sparing — which is right for you?
Most surgeons offer a single default nerve-sparing approach. Mr Sri performs both, and recommends whichever technique is best suited to your tumour location, prostate anatomy, and personal priorities.
Standard nerve-sparing
The established, widely practised robotic prostatectomy technique, with the longest track record and largest evidence base. The neurovascular bundles along the back and sides of the prostate are carefully preserved during removal of the gland.
Well suited to the widest range of tumour locations and prostate sizes, including many higher-risk and larger-gland cases.

A more recently developed technique performed entirely from behind the prostate, leaving the anterior support structures of the bladder and urethra — the "Space of Retzius" — completely undisturbed.
Because these anterior support structures are left intact, appropriately selected patients often experience an earlier return of continence in the days and weeks after catheter removal. A technically demanding approach performed by a smaller number of UK surgeons.
